CHOOSING A NURSE PRACTITIONER AS YOUR PCP

Here are a few questions often asked:

IS NURSE PRACTITIONER CARE SAFE AND AS GOOD AS A PHYSICIAN?

Nurse Practitioner care is comparable to Physician care. In fact, Studies show in terms of safety, outcomes and patient satisfaction we are just as good if not better.

In 2011 a meta-analysis  released in Nursing Economics reviewed comparative care over an 18 year span provided by advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) (Nurse Practitioners) to care provided by physicians.

Care was compared in 24 different categories.
APRNs performed equal to physicians in 13 categories.
APRNs performed better than physicians in 11 categories.
Physicians performed better than APRNs in zero categories.

MEDICAL HOUSE CALLS

Medical House Calls are a necessity for the Home Bound population!

Routine preventative care & management of chronic illness is essential for the home bound elder & disabled population.

There is a significant struggle to get to a medical office. It can be exhausting just to get washed & dressed in the morning. Adding the tasks of preparing to go out, getting transportation & someone to accompany them to the visit is a task in and of itself. Waiting to be seen, getting in the exam room and finally the work to get back home.

The more frail or ill the person is, the less likely an office visit can be accomplished, even with a strong support system.

Imagine living on your own at 90 years old. You have outlived most of your family and friends. You rely on neighbors and delivery services for your needs.

What happens when you suddenly become ill?

Most would call the Primary provider and will likely be told to come into the office. When getting to the office is not possible, the likely response will be to go to the Emergency Room.

A trip to the Emergency Room is not only expensive, it poses a danger to the individual by exposing them to other illnesses that can lead to significant debilitation, and the potential loss of their autonomy at home.

The physical, emotional & psychological stress is devastating and the financial burden is crushing.

Routine & Urgent Medical House Calls eliminate all of the struggles, pain & suffering!

Benefits of these visits:

Cost Effective
Convenient for the individual
Increased treatment compliance
Decreased medication duplication & errors

Let the Blogging Begin!

These Past Few Weeks Have Been Busy With Seasonal Allergy Sufferers!

      Symptoms
            Sneezing
            Runny or Stuffy Nose
            Watery Eyes
             Itchy Throat & Ears
             Sinus Pressure
             Ear Congestion
             Postnasal Drip
             Headache
             Coughing

If you are experiencing symptoms that are not listed above such as fever, wheezing, shortness of breath please call to come in. It may not be just allergies.

Here Are Some Tips to Manage Seasonal Allergies:

Seasonal Allergy symptoms rear its ugly head when the pollen count rises. The pollen count is at its highest in the early morning hours!

Early in the season call & schedule a Primary Care office visit to determine the best coarse of treatment & plan of management for you.Especially if you have chronic illnesses. Not all over the counter medications are suitable for everyone

Check the pollen count on the local news or internet & start your medication or plan of care when high

Our favorite site to check the pollen count is:

  • Leave outdoor activities to later in the day
  • Wear a dust mask to mow the lawn or garden. Even better, delegate the task to someone without allergies
  • Close your windows when the lawn or garden are being tended to, even when your neighbors are working on their lawns
  • Don't hang laundry outside to dry, pollen sticks to the clothes and increases your symptoms when you wear them
  • When appropriate use the AC
  • Vacuum frequently with a filtered vacuum
  • Change your heating system filters according to the recommended schedule
  • Air filters & Dehumidifiers can work wonders
